About

Kerbal Space Program: Breaking Ground Expansion is the second expansion for the PC version of the acclaimed space flight simulator Kerbal Space Program. Packed with content, this expansion focuses on expanding the possibilities for objectives after arriving on a celestial body, adding more scientific endeavors and broadening the range of available tools.

After landing on a celestial body, a variety of data-gathering equipment can be used to conduct scientific experiments. New surface features are scattered throughout the solar system, and players will need to find them in order to scan them or bring them back to Kerbin for closer analysis.

In addition, we're adding robotic parts! Hinges, pistons, rotors, and rotational servos in various sizes will be available to dramatically expand what's possible for players. All of these parts operate with realistic physics, including actual torque and forces, electricity consumption, and even motor mass.

  • Science put to use: scientific experiments have always gone hand in hand with space exploration, and now they are receiving even more attention in KSP. Players will be able to use a storage module on their vessels that can carry a variety of scientific equipment. Upon reaching a destination, players will need to deploy the equipment, which includes a central station, relay antenna, solar panel, weather station, active seismometer, RTG, Goo Observation, and ion detector. This equipment must be left in place for a period of time to fully collect scientific data and transmit it back to Kerbin. The active seismometer, in particular, requires the player to hurl objects onto the celestial body in order to gather seismic data!
  • Surface features: a major addition in Breaking Ground can be found on celestial bodies scattered across the solar system. Meteors, craters, rocky outcrops, cryovolcanoes, and other features can now be discovered. Smaller formations can be carried back to the KSC by kerbals, but the larger ones pose a greater challenge and will require kerbals to venture out in rovers or send unmanned rovers instead. By adding the new robotic arm to a rover, the player can scan larger formations to collect important scientific data.
  • Robotic parts: the highly requested robotic parts will now be available for use in KSP! Hinges, pistons, rotors, and rotational servos in various sizes will offer players new challenges and further enhance the creativity of their vessels. Complementing these new parts, we have added a robotic control system that allows players to coordinate the behavior of all the different parts of a craft.
  • A new suit: of course, kerbal style has not been overlooked. With Breaking Ground, players will receive a new futuristic-looking suit that matches the expansion's scientific focus.

Take on new challenges with the wide variety of new tools and parts in KSP's second expansion, Breaking Ground. Weather stations, solar panels, and other equipment will allow players to collect scientific data as they travel to investigate mysterious formations, such as cryovolcanoes, using the new robotic parts.
