In the late 13th century, the Mongol empire devastated nations in its campaign to conquer the East. Tsushima Island is all that stands between the main island of Japan and the immense invading fleet of the Mongols led by a cunning and ruthless general, Khotun Khan.
As the island is devastated by the first wave of Mongol attacks, Jin Sakai emerges, a courageous samurai warrior who is one of the last survivors of his clan. He is determined to do whatever it takes, whatever the cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. To do this, it will be necessary to put aside the traditions that shaped him as a warrior and forge a new path, that of the Phantom, waging an atypical war for the freedom of Tsushima.
